Sons of the Forest Rebreather Cave Location and How to Reach It
Exploring the mysterious island in Sons of the Forest requires specialized tools to unlock hidden regions and access high-tier gear. Among these crucial items is the Rebreather, which allows players to explore deep underwater caverns without drowning. Finding the right cave and navigating its dangerous passages is an essential step for mid-game progression.
Locating the Rebreather Cave Entrance
The cave containing the Rebreather is situated on the northern coast of the island along the shoreline. Players can identify the location using their GPS map by looking for the northern beach where several bodies are impaled on spikes. The entrance itself is embedded in a rocky alcove near the tree line and is blocked by wooden barricades.
To enter the cave, equip a melee weapon like your starter axe to chop away the wooden boards. Before stepping inside, ensure you bring adequate light sources, such as a crafted torch or flashlight, since the interior is exceptionally dark. Searching the campsite area near the entrance will also yield valuable supplies like flare cases and air tanks.
Navigating Inside Cave A to Find the Gear
Once inside, the cavern pathway remains mostly linear as you move past hanging skeletons and low ceilings. After encountering the first group of cave mutants, you will arrive at a major fork in the tunnel. Taking the left-hand path decorated with life jackets will direct you straight toward the Rebreather.
Following this left route leads into an expansive chamber with a deep body of water surrounded by dry ledges. The Rebreather can be found resting on the ground near a light source on the far edge of the rocks. Players who wish to grab additional loot can optionally explore the right path first to obtain the Stun Gun before returning.
How to Safely Exit the Rebreather Cave
After picking up the gear, it automatically equips and enables an oxygen meter when entering deep water. However, escaping the cave requires swimming through the large flooded pool, where a hostile shark often spawns. It is best to kill the shark using a ranged weapon or carefully time your entry to avoid taking heavy damage.
Dive straight down into the submerged tunnel and follow the single pathway through the flooded rock formations. Swimming through this exit leads directly into the open ocean just off the northern beach. Once back on land, you can use your new scuba gear to tackle other critical locations, such as the Shovel Cave.
